So I did a fabric testing before I printed on my dress.

I forgot to add special fabric medium, so the fluorescent pink washed away once I washed with soap and water.

So I designed a few images to put on my dress using photoshop. I thought about putting pattern on my dress, but because I bought ready made cloth, it would be very difficult to print pattern equally on to the fabric without looking awkward. Also, because the florescent pink looks very bright, it would look very stand out in the day time, and not casual enough. So I wanted my image to be simple.

I also thought about if ladies attend to a party, most likely we would be putting jewelry on our neck and wrist. So I thought about printing fake on on to the fabric. And here are my three designs:

So originally I was going to use UV ink to print images on my dress, so the image would look invisible in the day time and visible in the night time. But because I couldn’t find any store that sells UV inks in Canada, besides that most of the UV ink supplies only sell on States and other countries, and the shiping day could be up to 14 days, so I changed my paint to fluorescent ink. Thank so much to Pam , she is a great adviser who gave me a lot of advices for paints that can grow in the dark.:D

So Instead buying an UV ink, I bought the Chromatemp ink which contain fluorescent. There are many inks that contains fluorescent in the Opus store such as Permaset (pink, purple, green), but this one is the cheapest and smallest one and easy to wash off from hand and as well as non toxin for the skin.

However, this ink does visible on the fabric during the day time, although Opus has another type of ink that could be mixed with arcrylic fluorescent ink and it would look kind of invisible with a little white mark, it was still against my original idea of not being seen at all, so I gave up on that one and stay with Chromatemp ink.

Because I chose to use this fluorescent pink ink I also have to change my fabric color too. I was going to use white or black fabric for my dress, but it would look so bright on those two fabric colors, so I chose purple fabric that contains a little bit of pink and it would sort of blending the fluorescent pink with the fabric color.

I was going to make my own cloth and I even did a little mock up but it just didn’t work for me! So I went to buy my dress and here were the dresses that I had tried on:

I actually tried five different dresses including the one I bought, but I can only find these two model pictures onilne, because I didn’t bring a camera with me when I did my cloth shopping.

I want to make a dress that is one piece but with two uses. You know sometimes when you have too many event such as opening show, banquet and party need to go in one day, clothing becomes once of the trouble issue for people. You wan to look casual in the daytime, semi-formal in the banquet, but you don’t want to lose the playfulness in the party. Choosing proper clothing becomes a headache for some people, because they don’t want to carry too many bags with different clothes for each event. It would be too messy and painful and troublesome to carry around or carry and change after. Thus I want to create a piece of clothing for special environment that can be ware in day time and also suitable for special party at the night too. So my idea is using UV color ink to create simple pattern or image on the cloth.

Recently I goggled online and was tried to find some possibilities that I can do with the thermochromic ink. Since the first project, I really had a fun experience, so I want to continue with the project. So here I found some interesting websites that I never know about it.

Wow, there are actually a companies only made UV-Protective clothing!!!! Amazing, but I won’t surprised this idea came out already, because we had cosmetic that contain UV protection, so another UV protection product would be another root line to get people to spend their money !!!!Hahahahaha

At the begining of the project, I had a hard time to think a meaningful image print on my T-shirt. So a friend gave me an advice that I could think about a logo slogan, for example, Nike’s “Just do it.” Its logo + slogan were successfully propagated everywhere in the world. Since these few years, the whole world is under economic depression. Many people have lost their job and become unemployed. So I want to think an encouraging slogan that can impel people’s morale and fighting power to hold on tight to cross this economic crisis; so for people who still have their job would work much harder; and for people who lost their job would still look forward for new oppertunities and never give up.

So I came out this “hand” image with the slogan “Change is in your hands” because I believe a person’s future is created by his/ her own hands. Whatever happened, good or bad, we are the one who make the decision for ourselves. Our future relies on our hands; so change is always in our hands.

and oopz..I havne’t update my blog for two weeks..

I was being soo busy…perhaps new semester I shouldn’t take too many course while still have a job!!:P

Anyway….

Although the first project was over, here was the testing result before I print my T-shirt.

pic #1 we did same test for megenta one thinner layer vs thicker layer.

pic #2 we used:

>Thermochromic magenta ink + no Blend + fabric ink the result is the fabric won’t change colour.

> Thermochromic magenta ink + fabric ink the result does turn to color

>Blend + fabric in doesn’t change at all.

>thermochromic black ink + Blend doesn’t change a lot especially thick layer.

>thermochromic black in + Blend + fabric red doesn’t change at all too (maybe layer was too thick?)

>thermochromic matenta ink + fabric color + rinsing the color bleeded but colour still on it.

pic # 3 is my favorite color 0.5 thermochromic matenta +1 fabric blue; and the mixture is purple
